1. Check out the current volunteer needs below. If you don’t see a position that’s a good match today, check back at a later date. CHS does not keep a waiting list.
2. See a position that interests you? Watch the Virtual Open House video to learn more about becoming a CHS volunteer. This is a requirement before you apply.
3. Watched the video? Liked what you saw? Now it’s time to Apply to Volunteer. Make sure to specify the role and shift that interest you. Selected applicants will be invited in for an interview. CHS is not able to process applications that do not meet the basic requirements.
You need to be 18 or older to volunteer. Under 18? Don’t worry! You can still get involved.
Volunteer Opportunities at the Newington Adoption Center
Adoption Desk Assistants
The Newington adoption center is looking for friendly volunteers with excellent customer service skills to assist at the adoption desk. Desk volunteers greet customers, answer basic questions about the adoption process and utilize the animal database to look up and record information.
Requirements: 18 or older, have active health insurance, comfortable working around all types of animals, able to work independently with limited supervision, able to follow verbal and written instructions and effectively communicate with staff, other volunteers and the public. Excellent customer service, computer and phone skills.
Commitment: 2 -3 hours per week on a set-schedule for at least 6 months.
Laundry Room Assistants
The Newington adoption center is looking for reliable volunteers to assist in our busy laundry room. Volunteers wash and fold pet bedding and clean and disinfect dishes, toys and other pet items. Volunteers play a vital role in cutting down on the spread of illness by making sure all items are clean and sanitary.
Requirements: 18 or older, have active health insurance, be in good physical condition, able to work independently with limited supervision or with the assistance of a job coach, able to follow verbal and written instructions and effectively communicate with staff and other volunteers.
Commitment: 3 hours per week on a set schedule for at least 6 months.
