Adoption is about companionship, both for you and the pet! Senior dog Chloe has found her perfect match and is now settling into life with a wonderful young couple. She’s thrilled to have a retirement home to spend her golden years in. At eight years old and with an adorably greying muzzle, Chloe is happy to be home this holiday season with a family of her very own!
Her journey to home wasn’t easy. When Chloe arrived limping into CHS last September (yes, you read that right: last September 2023!) with the doggy equivalent of a torn ACL, she was in pain, and wasn’t sure who to trust. She was scared, vulnerable, and the shelter was so different at first. But with the guidance of the behavior team, Chloe slowly let her guard down, learning how to trust people and accept the care she needed.
Her medical recovery was a team effort. X-rays taken in-house by CHS’ medical team revealed degenerative joint disease and chronic issues in her legs, requiring input from external board-certified veterinary specialists. While waiting for her surgical consult, Chloe was moved to a quiet space with special matting so she was as comfortable as possible for the time being.
Once her surgical consult confirmed the need for an operation, Chloe was placed in a foster home where she could safely and quietly await surgery. Her foster family followed a careful plan of short, gentle walks to keep her muscles active without overexerting her. After her surgery, Chloe’s foster family worked diligently to help her recover, gradually increasing her activity level until she was cleared to return to her favorite activities.
With her limp gone, her leg healed, and her confidence restored, Chloe was finally ready for adoption. A lovely young couple saw her smiling face on social media and decided to come visit on a beautiful afternoon in June of 2024. It didn’t take much for everyone to fall in love, and after 10 months with the Connecticut Humane Society, Chloe was going home.
Now, she has a loving family who will cherish her for the rest of her life! Congratulations, Chloe!
