A year ago, the grounds at 863 Danbury Road were a flurry of demolition and preparation. The houses that once dotted the hillside were removed to make way for a bold new vision—now actively taking shape.

By February 2025, the transformation is well underway. Despite the challenges of winter weather, construction crews have continued to make steady progress. Interior walls are going up, exterior panels are being installed, and the building is quickly evolving into a fully realized facility.

Leading this development is Pat Moughty, Senior Project Manager at Viking Construction. “The project is about to enter the finishes stage,” Pat shares. “This is when the building truly begins to take on its final form. Every detail matters at this stage—it will define the overall success of the project.”

While the construction team focuses on completing the structure, CHS’ development team has been working to strengthen community engagement. Monthly information sessions are being held at local libraries to provide project updates, answer questions, and share the organization’s mission.

Looking ahead, a Grand Opening Celebration is planned for late August. Although construction will conclude this July, the additional time will allow both pets and people to settle into the new facility before officially welcoming the community to celebrate this major milestone.

Community support has played a vital role in the progress of this transformative project. From the earliest planning phases through ongoing construction, the involvement of local residents, volunteers, and donors has been nothing short of extraordinary. Supporters have contributed in powerful ways—attending information sessions to stay engaged, making generous financial contributions to advance construction, and spreading awareness about the mission and vision behind the new facility. This collective effort has not only moved the project forward but has also shaped it into a space that truly reflects the compassion and care of the community it represents.

Most importantly, this support is already making a difference for the animals. Every brick, beam, and square foot of the new building is designed with the well-being of pets in mind. Community contributions are creating larger, more comfortable living spaces, quiet areas for shy or recovering animals, and modern medical suites that will allow for faster diagnoses and treatment. Natural light, thoughtful design, and increased capacity will reduce stress and improve quality of life for pets while they wait for their forever homes.

Beyond the walls of the facility, the impact of community support will be felt in every tail wag and purr. More animals will receive lifesaving care. More adoptions will take place in welcoming, family-friendly spaces. More educational and outreach programs will ensure lasting connections between people and pets.

This is more than a building—it’s a beacon of hope. Thanks to the generosity and commitment of so many, the new facility will uplift not only the animals who pass through its doors but the entire region for years to come.
