Each and every animal we connect with as an individual, with his or her own set of specific needs and challenges. As you meet some of these pets for whom we have gone the extra mile, keep in mind they are not the exception. They are the rule.
2020 presented unique challenges at the Connecticut Humane Society. As with any national crisis – and there have been more than a few in CHS’ 140 year history – local needs increased dramatically. CHS succeeded because of you.

Friendships are formed every day at CHS. Whether it’s a dog learning how to trust again, or a cat finding the purrfect match for their personality, pets like Cedar and Esme can always count on the power of friendship.
When it comes to shelter pets, some scars aren’t all that obvious, and other, well, are. Jessi was not born with the ears she has now, nor was the new shape a quirky cosmetic decision on her part.
Surrendering a pet is never an easy decision and the Connecticut Humane Society’s mission is to be there for them when they need it most. And for sweet Zeke and Lulu, it was their turn to ask for help.
“You don’t know how much this means to me,” a tear filled pet parent smiled and said to the CHS staff as they arrived for their clinic appointment. His dog, Lucy, was one of nearly two dozen pets served at a pop-up clinic event in Westport this season.
