Animal Welfare University is a free training hosted by the Connecticut Humane Society for Animal Control Officers (ACOs), human service providers and first responders.

ACOs in Connecticut are tasked with the great responsibility of enforcing animal control and cruelty laws in order to protect both the animals and the communities in which they serve. The field of animal welfare is evolving and advancing at a rapid rate, which presents a need for better equipped, educated, and skilled officers. These workshops provide ACOs and Animal Welfare professionals with an opportunity to further their knowledge about topics within the ever-changing field of animal welfare.

Case managers, social workers, first responders and a variety of other professionals from the human services field frequently travel to their clients’ homes and often encounter their pets. Animal Welfare University workshops help these professionals better understand how to safely interact with pets. Providers also leave these trainings equipped with the know-how for delivering critical information to CHS and other animal welfare partners when arranging for these pets to see a veterinarian and/or enter a temporary boarding situation.
