Animal Resource Center Info Session at the Wilton Library

A fur-tastic animal resource center is coming to Fairfield County in 2025, and you will want to be part of the pack!

Join an informal info session on Wednesday, January 29th from 6:00 – 7:00 PM at the Wilton Library (137 Old Ridgefield Road, Wilton, CT) to get the inside scoop on this paws-itively heartwarming project. Get all the details on the public low-cost vet clinic, pet food pantry, and more programs changing local pets’ lives and the families who love them. Even sneak a peek at the building plans and design — think spacious play areas, comfy napping nooks, and outdoor playscapes where pets can run, play, and live their best lives.

Learn about the CT Humane Society and volunteer opportunities, or simply share a vision for a more humane community! Hand in paw with this animal resource center, making a difference for pets in need. Mark your calendars and get ready to unleash your passion — this meet-up will be a total tail-wagger!

There is no cost to attend and you will not be solicited. This event is not sponsored by the Wilton Library.

Reading to Pets

Read at the Newington Pet Wellness and Adoption Center for a limited-run program, “Reading to Pets”. Designed for children ages 6-18, the session will help sharpen your child’s reading skills while allowing them to spend quality time with an adoptable pet.

During their session, children will have the opportunity to read to cats or small pets, all of whom are excited to lend a furry ear to any new or seasoned reader. Bring your favorite book or pick from one provided by CHS.

Watch your child’s confidence in reading grow as they bring comfort and compassion to shelter pets. Reading sessions are 20-minutes long and will be offered December 31. Pre-registration is required.

There is a registration fee of $14.64 per child, per session. One adult must accompany their reader for the entire session. Due to space limits and safety requirements, only one reader and one adult per reservation. Siblings and additional adults are not able to accompany you and your child to the session.

PETtalk: Rabbits 101

Rabbits are wonderful pets, but their care is a bit different from dogs, cats and even other small animals. Rabbits are fluffy, cute and all-around loving companions, but understanding the ins and outs of their care is vital to their health. Yet, for owners it can be difficult to navigate the world of rabbits, due to a lack of available resources.

This month, the Connecticut Humane Society welcomes speakers Dr. Matthew Ford and Ms. Amy Ford of Southern Maine Hospital for Small Mammals, to share their expertise on all things rabbit. They will discuss rabbit handling, husbandry, and common rabbit health concerns. A live Q&A will follow their presentation. You can also submit your bunny question ahead of time during registration.
