This summer, a long-held vision becomes reality. CT Humane Society’s brand-new pet resource center will open its doors at 863 Danbury Road in Wilton, marking a new chapter for animal welfare.
This isn’t just a building. It’s a promise.
A promise that every pet will be met with compassion. A promise that families, regardless of income or circumstance, will have access to the support they need to care for their four-legged loved ones. A promise that no one has to choose between keeping a pet and affording essential care.
Powered by Community:
The pet resource center is made possible by generous individuals, families, businesses, and organizations who believe in one simple truth: every pet deserves a safe, loving home, and every person deserves access to the tools to help their pets thrive.
Construction may be wrapping up, but the most important work is just beginning. Every square foot of this new center is designed to meet real needs—quiet rooms for adoptions and family conversations, medical spaces for urgent care, and community areas for education and connection.
To bring this space to life, imagine the stories it will hold—stories like Luna’s and Tux’s.
Meet Luna: A Loyal Companion, A Second Chance
Luna is a gentle, senior dog who means everything to her owner, Steve. After the passing of his wife, Steve was left navigating grief and financial strain. Luna was his constant companion—but when she began shaking her head constantly, Steve feared something was seriously wrong.
The cost of veterinary care felt out of reach. Steve worried not only about Luna’s health, but also about whether he could keep caring for her at all.
That’s when a friend told him about CHS’ pet resource center.
Steve and Luna were welcomed into a calming, private room where a CHS staff member listened to their story with compassion—not judgment. Later that week, Luna was seen by a veterinarian, who diagnosed her with a painful but treatable double ear infection.
Steve left the center with medication, a payment plan, and a bag of dog food—but more than that, he left with peace of mind. Luna could stay where she belonged: by his side.
Meet Tux & the Johnson Family: A Perfect Match
It was a sunny Saturday when the Johnsons—Emily, Marcus, and their daughters Kennedy and Alea—walked into the bright, welcoming adoption lobby of the Pet Resource Center.
They weren’t sure what to expect. But within minutes, they found themselves in a quiet meet-and-greet room with Tux, a calm, green-eyed black cat who padded straight toward Alea, nuzzled her hand, then curled up in Kennedy’s lap like he’d known them forever.
The connection was immediate.
With guidance from CHS adoption counselors, the Johnsons learned about Tux’s personality, his favorite toys, and how to help him adjust to his new home. They left the center with a new family member—and hearts full of joy.
Tux didn’t just find a home. He found his home.
A New Chapter for Pets and People
These are just two examples—fictional, yes, but deeply grounded in the everyday realities that CHS encounters. These moments of connection, relief, and hope will unfold every single day at the pet resource center.
Whether it’s helping a family keep their beloved pet during a crisis, supporting a senior with pet care they can no longer manage alone, or finding the perfect match for a pet who’s been waiting for their second chance—this center will change lives.
And it’s all thanks to the individuals and organizations who believed this was possible.
As the opening approaches, the team at CHS is preparing to welcome the community in to see the impact firsthand. Because this isn’t just a facility for animals—it’s a place for people, too. For stories. For hope. For healing.
