If you stopped by the Wilton Farmers’ Market this summer, it’s likely that you may have run into Barb, Kayleigh, or Doug the Dog representing the Connecticut Humane Society. Every Wednesday throughout the summer, CHS set-up camp at the farmers’ market to spread the word about the soon-to-be-built Animal Resource Center. Not only did they meet many different folks in the Wilton community, they were also able to connect with local businesses and organizations that will be neighbors to the new Animal Resource Center.
While many people who came by the CHS tent had previously heard about the new facility coming to Wilton, there were some who had no idea! Community members were stoked to learn about the resources that would be accessible to them as pet owners, not just adopters. CHS’ mission has evolved over the years to include keeping pets in homes and making sure families stay together forever. The new facility will provide resources to members of the community that will do just that. Features of the animal resource center include a Pet Food Pantry, humane education opportunities, and even a low-fee veterinary clinic open to the public.
Camille Carriero, Executive Director of the Wilton Chamber of Commerce, planned and organized the entire farmers’ market. She has quickly become a close friend of CHS and even attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the new facility. While orchestrating the farmers’ market, Camille was also on top of introducing the CHS team to other community organizations and businesses in attendance.
The team at CHS is elated to be joining such a lively and welcoming community like Wilton. Once the doors on the new Animal Resource Center on Danbury Road open next fall, there is bound to be collaboration and programming with other community organization such as the Riverbrook Regional YMCA. The team at CHS is also excited to welcome new volunteers from the community.
