Update - Friday, July 11th, 2025
Please Note: As CHS prepares to open its brand-new pet resource center in Wilton later this summer, all services in Westport are now closed. All Fairfield County services will be supported by the Newington and Waterford locations during this transition. Please call 800-452-0114 for more information.
Pet adoption:
-
-
- Pet adoptions in Newington begin with an in-person application.
- In Waterford, start by applying online—adoption visits there are by appointment.
- Westport adoptions are currently on hold as CHS transitions to its brand new pet resource center in Wilton. In the meantime, the Newington and Waterford teams are here to help you in your search for a new companion.
- The CHS pet listing updates automatically every 5 minutes. Applications are accepted in person only and reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. Email or phone inquiries are not considered part of the application process.
- Read here for full details on the process to prepare for your visit.
-
Pet surrender:
-
-
- The first step is to call 800-452-0114 to speak with a CHS team member and discuss some ideas for your pet. All surrenders require a phone call to start the process and an appointment. More information is available here.
-
