A Sweet Goodbye to Westport and a Warm Hello to Wilton
After more than 70 years of serving pets and families in Westport, the Connecticut Humane Society’s location on Post Road has officially closed its doors. In September 2025, former Westport staff and volunteers transitioned to the brand-new Pet Resource Center in Wilton, located at 863 Danbury Road—ushering in a new era of animal welfare in Fairfield County.
Set on 18 acres with a beautiful walking trail and ample outdoor space for dogs to run and play, the 14,581-square-foot facility is thoughtfully designed to serve both adoptable and community pets. The building is divided nearly in half to support these vital areas of care.
Purpose-Built for Every Stage of a Pet’s Journey
Step into the Gretchen Dale Adoption Lobby and you’ll immediately feel the calm, welcoming atmosphere for pets and prospective families. Dogs and cats enjoy bright, natural light from windows and solar tubes, with large and small dogs housed separately and outdoor play yards featuring an agility course. Catios in the cat adoption area let cats safely watch the outdoors, while small animals—including guinea pigs, rabbits, and ferrets—have their own quiet space. The Donna Gail Community Room hosts humane education workshops and community programs, including reading-to-pets sessions and pet CPR classes, with many more opportunities planned for 2026 and beyond.
The public veterinary clinic provides comprehensive medical care for community pets, with surgery and treatment bays, an on-site laboratory and pharmacy, and a dedicated dental suite. While not an emergency or 24-hour facility, CHS staff maintain strong connections with specialty and emergency hospitals to support urgent or advanced care. The Pet Resource Center also serves as a hub for outreach programs, including the Pet Food Pantry, ensuring pets can stay with families that love them.
Made Possible by a Community of Compassion
This overview only scratches the surface of the Pet Resource Center, yet the true story of this new chapter is the extraordinary generosity and dedication behind it. This transition was made possible by incredible donors who supported the capital campaign from 2019 through 2025, as well as the devoted volunteers who gave their time, energy, and unwavering belief to CHS’ mission.
Because of this community of compassion, thousands of pets will receive care, comfort, and a place to thrive for generations to come. “Thank you” could never fully express the lasting impact CHS supporters have made on the future of animal welfare in Fairfield County.
