Not everybody gets a shot at 15 minutes of fame at the ripe age of 1 month old. But then again, Sally probably would have preferred not getting her time in the spotlight the way she did. This little tuxedo kitten put on quite the show when she somehow wound up in a storm drain in front of a high school in Wethersfield. Her meows were so loud and persistent that a passerby was able to hear her cries for help, and call for help themselves!
It’s pawsible the Wethersfield first responders have seen a cat stuck in a tree a time or two, but they probably didn’t have “recreating a classic Stephen King story” on their 2025 bingo card. Luckily, when these pawesome firefighters pulled out the goopy kitten from the storm drain, they were just a few minutes away from the Connecticut Humane Society.
There’s no telling how long Sally was stuck in the storm drain, but what was clear was that she physically wasn’t doing too well. Mentally and emotionally, though, Sally was thrilled to be in someone’s care. The team didn’t know it yet, but she’d be bouncing off the walls in no time. After a gentle bath, the medical team was able to give her a proper look. Luckily, the upper respiratory infection and fleas she brought to CHS were no match for the amazing veterinarians who sprang to work to clean her up. A couple rounds of medication, lots of snuggles, and a spay surgery later, Sally was ready to rock and roll. Kittens sure do have a way of landing on their feet!
When the day came where she was old enough and cleared for adoption (which happened to be on Clear the Shelters Day—an event in partnership with NBC to adopt more pets during the month of August), Sally had a long line of adopters interested in bringing her home. The family lucky enough to add her to the mix are thrilled to have her home, and are under strict orders not to let her explore in any more storm drains. Once was more than enough.
