When Precious first arrived at the Connecticut Humane Society, she was confused. This 4-year-old pit bull terrier had only known one home her entire life. Her family loved her deeply, but a housing crisis made it impossible for them to keep her and so they chose to put Precious first. Bringing her to CHS meant giving her the chance to land safely and find a new family.
The transition was hard at first. Precious walked into CHS unsure of the unfamiliar sounds and spaces around her. Knowing she needed calm and reassurance, the behavior team gave her time to decompress in quiet office spaces, surrounded by gentle voices and friendly faces. Away from the bustle of the kennels, Precious began to relax and slowly settle in.
A full veterinary assessment revealed that Precious needed more than just time to adjust. A mass was discovered and promptly removed, and she was spayed during her care. The medical team also diagnosed hyperthyroidism and arthritis, conditions that can cause ongoing discomfort without treatment. Because of support from friends like you, Precious received the medication, monitoring and follow-up care she needed to stay comfortable and supported.
Most of Precious’s journey with CHS was spent in foster care, where she enjoyed a calm routine and the comforts of home. She loved being with her foster family, and she soon showed them how awesome a tennis ball can be. Her foster family even helped her take a big step toward her future, appearing together on NBC Connecticut’s Pet of the Week segment to share her story with the community and to find her a loving new home.
Precious’s patience was rewarded when she was adopted by a kind, understanding family ready to meet her where she was. Today, she’s thriving, surrounded by love, comfort, and plenty of tennis balls to chase. Her journey is a great reminder of what’s possible when pets in crisis receive thoughtful care, stability, and the chance to feel safe with caring people. Congratulations, Precious!
