At 10 months old, Cosette was found alone as a stray in Orange, gravely ill, weak, and fighting for her own life.

Thankfully, Cosette was brought to animal control and transferred to a local rescue group, where it quickly became clear that she was in critical condition and needed emergency medical intervention. She was rushed to the hospital, where veterinarians discovered she was suffering from sepsis.

With IV antibiotics, a blood transfusion and several days of intensive care, Cosette became stable enough to undergo lifesaving surgery, the barrier was the ever-increasing cost of her treatments. CHS’ Pet Resource Team stepped in and through your support, this sweet kitten received the care she needed to save her young life.

After being fostered for weeks by one of the veterinarians who saved her, Cosette is now healthy, happy, and spending the rest of her kittenhood with her new family, surrounded by love.

Cosette’s story illustrates why support for municipal shelters and private rescue groups is so important. These organizations work tirelessly to care for vulnerable pets, but extraordinary medical needs can stretch their resources. When the cost of treatment becomes a barrier, access to additional funding can make a critical difference.

To continue this important work, CHS is introducing the Tinkerbelle Fund, formerly known as the Municipal Shelter and Private Rescue Fund. The new name represents an ongoing commitment to supporting pets whose needs extend beyond what a municipal shelter or rescue group can manage alone. Through this fund, CHS can extend its reach beyond its own locations and support the people and organizations working to protect pets throughout Connecticut.

After weeks of recovery in foster care with one of the veterinarians who helped save her, Cosette is now healthy and happy. She’s spending the rest of her kittenhood with her new family, surrounded by the love and care every young pet deserves.

Cosette’s future looked uncertain when she arrived in critical condition. Thanks to the dedication of her care team and the generosity of the CHS community, she has the opportunity to grow, explore and enjoy life with her family. The Tinkerbelle Fund will carry this commitment forward, making it possible for more pets to receive care when they need it most.
