It’s not too late to make a New Year’s resolution—and here’s one that’s easy to keep and quick to do.
Make a legal will! The Connecticut Humane Society has partnered with a group called FreeWill to provide CHS supporters like you with an online, free will-writing tool. It’s an essential step toward protecting what matters to you most — so that Uncle Sam doesn’t decide for you.
It’s more important than ever to have a plan in place for your pets, the people you love, and the causes you care about most. And a legal will can plan all of that.
Creating your legal will on FreeWill takes about 20 minutes and costs you nothing. The safe, secure process was designed with top trust and estate experts across the country to comply with legal requirements of all 50 states. FreeWill does not ask for your social security number and does not require you to meet with a lawyer to share your wishes.
During the online, step-by-step will-writing process, you’ll have the chance to designate beneficiaries and assign any particular assets to a beneficiary. There is also a pet guardianship feature that allows you to select a person (or animal welfare organization) to care for your pet in the event that you’re unable to.
You’ll have the opportunity to designate an estate gift in your plans to CHS pets or other charitable causes that are important to you. It’s not at all a requirement for using FreeWill, but it’s a quick, easy way to change countless pets’ lives for generations to come.
Once you complete your will, you can print the document and will receive instructions on how to finalize it based on state requirements, such as having two witnesses sign the document with you.
It’s the best way to get peace of mind and protect the people and pets you care about today, tomorrow and long into the future.
