PETtalk: Pet Nutrition

What should pet owners know about pet nutrition?
The presentation will include unique characteristics of digestion and feeding regarding dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs. Also, information regarding interpreting a food label, common nutritional challenges and diseases, how to body condition score your pet, the raw pet food debate and sustainable food choices. Other topics may be discussed depending on audience interest.
Amy Safran graduated from UConn with an Animal Science degree in 1994 and then earned a Masters and PhD from the University of Missouri in dairy cow nutrition. Since, graduation she taught basic biology courses at the college level and then joined the Animal Science faculty at UConn in 2012. In this lecturer position, she teaches animal nutrition courses, production and companion animal courses and advises Associate’s and Bachelor’s degree students and clubs on campus. She and her family currently share their home with a new puppy, two cats and a mini-lop rabbit.
